A bomb squad and/or fire fighters are only needed for certain types of crimes, a bomb squad would be needed if the crime involved a bomb that had gone off or was thought to explode within a short period of time whereas firefighters would be needed in a crime where a fire had taken place, they can also both be needed if the bomb had a chance of creating a fire, if this was the case then fire fighters would be present ready to tackle the fire. They are known as specialists as they only cater to certain types of crimes that either include a bomb or a fire. If a bomb squad or fire fighters attended a different investigation then their roles would not change as they are only their to deal with a bomb or a fire, however their responsibilities may change as no two fires are the same which means the fire fighters might have to take a different approach which may result in evacuating nearby areas. Same as for the bomb squad, if the bomb is larger and has a greater radius then it is now their responsibility to clear the area.
Fire Investigation
Fire fighters attend every single fire investigation and are a crucial part of the team, they are usually one of the first agencies to arrive at the scene (as well as the police) as they are the ones who are tasked with putting out the fire. According to http://www.cityoforlando.net/ they also have the responsibility of making sure that everyone is out of the area of the fire which may result in them needing to go into burning buildings to help people to escape, because of them a lot of lives are saved at each fire scene. On the other hand the bomb squad is not needed at every fire scene, they are seen as specialists and are only needed if the police suspect that there may be bomb or if that a bomb has been found, the bomb squad are usually called before any investigation takes place, this is because there main role is to prevent the explosion and fire from actually taking place, not to go to the scene after the bomb has already exploded. Fire fighters can be tasked with a variety of roles upon arriving at the scene of the fire and work closely with the police during the whole process, once arriving at the scene some fire fighters work with the police to cordon off the area and remove any civilians in it to try to stop any further casualties from occurring, they are then tasked with trapping the fire so that it can not spread any further and then extinguishing it. Whereas firefighters have many roles at a fire scene and have to attend every scene the bomb squad do not as they are only needed if a bomb is suspected to be in the area, upon arriving at a scene they would work very closely with the fire fighters and the police to make sure that there are no civilians in the radius of the bomb in case they can not prevent an explosion from happening, when everyone is clear they then have to disarm and safely remove the bomb from the area. Firefighters will be on hand in case the bomb can not be diffused so they can quickly try to eradicate the after effects of the bomb going off such as the fire that will be caused at detonation. Overall, i think that firefighters are one of the most important roles in a fire investigation due to the amount of lives they manage to save due to them being very quick and time efficient, as they work very closely with the police at the scene this also means that they can focus more on eradicating the fire rather than clearing the area as the police are taking care of this, which allows the whole process to be done at a faster rate. However, a downfall of how firefighters operate would be the tools they use to stop a fire such as waters and foams, even though this is necessary to extinguish the fire and save lives it makes it very hard for the scenes of crime officers to do their job as a lot of the evidence that may be present at the scene is destroyed. The bomb squad are also an important part of a fire investigation team when they are needed, but as bombs are not as prevalent as fires they are not as relied upon as much as firefighters. But in terms of when they are needed they are very efficient and can save a lot of lives, due to them also working closely with the police they do not need to worry about clearing an area as the police will help with this which makes the way they operate more efficient.
