The health and safe executive is needed in most criminal investigation cases where a workplace may be involved, for example, if a fire took place in a place of work the health and safety executive (HSE) would be needed. Their main role is to try and reduce work related death and serious injury across Great Britain's workplaces, if a criminal investigation takes place then it is their job to visit the scene at which the crime took place and regulate and enforce heath and safety as well as inform the people working at the establishment how they can prevent this from happening again and the safety measures that would go along with it.
Fire Investigation
The health and safety executive is needed in nearly every fire investigation that occurs in Great Britain to do with businesses. According to www.hse.gov.uk the health and safety executives start their work a couple of days after the fire investigation and meet with the owner of the property or the business whose building has had a fire, their main role is not only provide the owner with advice on how to stop what happened from reoccurring, but they also conduct a thorough search of the building to see if there is any other flaws that could result in the fire reoccurring and make sure that the building is in accordance with their fire safety regulations, once they have advised the owner on what to do to provide a safe environment they will keep a record of the changes they have suggested so that when they visit the building at a later date they can provide a checklist of what should have been changed and whether the changes they advised have actually been implemented. A health and safety executive can be a very important part of a fire investigation team as they help over a long period, not just at the time of the fire investigation. This means that they are able to decreases the likelihood of a fire happening in that same location, the problem being they can only help after the fire has actually occurred which means that they can not prevent fires from occurring in other businesses as they have not performed a thorough check on other buildings to make sure that they follow the regulations required, they do however, provide businesses with guidelines on how to prevent fires from occurring but as this would cost the businesses money to make the changes they do not follow them and as the HSE does not perform routine checks on these businesses a fire is still likely to happen. The HSE does also not work with or provide support to other organisations working on the fire investigation, this is due to them doing the majority of their work after the investigation has took place which means that none of the organisations benefit from them which can be seen as a negative.
